De Wii U komt dit jaar uit. Althans, in dit verkoopjaar en dat wil dus niet zeggen dat hij ook uiterlijk op 31 december 2012 bij u in de woonkamer kan staan. Maar wanneer dan wel? Dat weten wij voorlopig nog niet. Tijdens de E3 krijgen wij een hoop te zien van de Wii U maar niet de datum en ook niet de prijs:
“We will showcase the final format, and discuss the details and the software lineup for this year at E3 2012. Please also be advised that, as we did for previous platforms that were launched in the year-end sales season, we will announce the launch date and price in each market sometime after E3.”
Nintendo ziet wel in dat men de markt anders moet gaan benaderen als het om games verkopen gaat. Op de Wii U zal elke Nintendo game op de dag van de lancering namelijk ook digitaal te koop zijn en hoeft u dus niet verplicht meer naar de winkel. Dit zal heel langzaam ook gaan gebeuren voor de 3DS. New Super Mario Bros 2 zal voor de 3DS op de zelfde dag te downloaden zijn als dat hij in de winkels ligt. Dat is een goede zaak, want Nintendo is er voor iedereen. Kijk maar:
“Nintendo’s basic strategy is to expand the gaming population. We would like as many people as possible, regardless of age, gender and game play experience, to have access to our product messages. From that perspective, for our digital business to grow drastically, it is imperative for us to expand the exposure of the digital download products to potential consumers.”
